I appreciate you wanting to learn more about my background and approach. It's important to know a little about a person if you're going to deeply share about yourself with them.
The Nitty Gritties:
-North Carolina Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, (LPC), #5385
-Nationally Certified Counselor, (NCC), #78160
-Professional Counselor Telehealth Provider for South Carolina, #868
-Member of American Counseling Association
-Recipient of The Excellence in Teaching Award from National Society of Leadership & Success
-Former Community College Instructor of Psychology & Sociology
-Member of The Association of Pet Loss and Bereavement
-Member of North Carolina Writers' Network
The above are important, but it really comes down to connecting with someone. I see my role as creating space for you to grow, heal, and achieve your goals. My style is curious, compassionate, wholistic, with a dash of humor who will "nudge" at times to help facilitate growth. Making changes, even healthy ones, can be hard and uncomfortable but the "growing pains" are worth it. Our time here on this Blue Marble we all share is short. It is a true honor to be a part of a client's Life journeys as they have the courage to move toward wholeness.
Using an eclectic approach with a Client-Centered lens, I incorporate understandings and techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and am (IFS) Internal Family Systems-informed. Each person is unique and is more than simply what has happened to them. If the client would like, their spirituality or existential beliefs can also be included into their therapy.
With a unique specialty in pet loss, I’ve developed and facilitated pet loss support groups for animal shelter and veterinary hospital staff and clients as well as traveled nationally to co-facilitate workshops on compassion fatigue for animal shelter staff and animal control officers. My published articles have been featured in various magazines and on “The Signal,” a Baltimore NPR program as an expert on pet loss. I'm also working on a self-help/self-discovery book to help heal your heart after pet loss. As a former psychology and sociology instructor, I loved teaching my students about how the human brain, body, and behavior all work together to make us who we are.
My debut novel, BURIED DEEP IN OUR HEARTS, celebrates the important bond with our animals and honors their memory. My second novel, FINDING HER SPIRIT, is a coming-of-age novel about the many ways a horse-loving girl finds strength in horses, even though she can’t have one. Spirit (the buckskin horse in the pic) is the inspiration. In March 2021, Spirit unexpectedly earned his angel wings. Thank you to Dream Haven Guest Ranch in Montana for allowing me to connect with such a beautiful being. His life changed the trajectory of mine.
When not writing, counseling, or speaking, my husband, Daniel, and I and create videos for our travel YouTube channel, "Adventures with Dan and Tracie." I also find nourishment in singing, playing the piano, dancing, movies, and quoting “Golden Girls," "Friends," and "Will & Grace" episodes.
